Back surgery? Discectomy?
Not sure what to do when it comes to back surgery?
Discectomy, or a laminectomy send shivers up your spine (literally?):
If you’ve got a herniated disc, stenosis etc and looking for surgery (discectomy/laminectomy), I’ve put together a few links and video’s I’ve found along the way that I thought were pretty interesting.
I’ll be investigating each one as I think about what I’m going to do for my back surgery.
Firstly, these guys seem really switched on, have some new and interesting technology that looks very promising (www.bonati.com), and secondly I found this interesting promotional video on youtube about them:
This video on youtube can’t be embedded into the blog, however I thought it was sooooo good and I think it’s going to be something I follow up.. It makes sense, and seems to have the least impact on your back muscles etc.
Minimally Invasive Micro Discectomy - Back Surgery video 1
This is a similar movie but seems to have a bit more of a sales spin (hell their hospital PR person is on it), but I think they possibly give a better explanation of the benefits of this type of surgery:

For more operations, and if your timing is right you can actually ask the surgeons question as they operate… here it is www.or-live.com.
Australians: if you don’t have a recommendation for a surgeon, here’s a good place to start: Find a surgeon at the Australian Orthopaedic Association
Americans: unfortunately the American Orthopaedic Association doesn’t have a similiar search capability of it’s member’s, but if someone can recommend a link, I’ll put it up.
Finally, if you do decide to have surgery, I found this good read… 56 things to do while recovering from surgery.
If you’ve got any other good links, or movies you know of, let me know, and I’ll put them up for everyone.
Cheers
