L4-L5 herniated disc - Back Pain Update #5

Well since the last post I’ve been on a bit of a rollercoaster ride. I had a 3 day spell of not much pain at all, however, it took a nose dive on Thur/Fri and the weekend wasn’t too much fun. A lot of pain killers etc. I saw the specialist on Friday who said he could see improvement in my foot and toe strength which was a good sign. He also mentioned that the Epidural shot would have worn off by now and that it was now just me and my body trying to eradicate the piece of disc material that is pinching my nerve.

I’m about to start trying some exercises out of the book “Treat Your Own Back” written by Robin McKenzie. It turns out a friend from work loaned me the book when he saw my back getting bad, and that the website listed below also mentions the book and it’s usefulness, I’ll keep you posted on how it goes, and if I notice any improvement from the exercises.

Okay, for anyone following my back problems, I’ve found a website of someone who’s been through it, and the way they described their pain when it started and how it got progressively worse and even her issues with the doctors is exactly the same as mine.. worth a look:

Basically she took the alternative therapy and said it’s my back and I’ll fix it, rather than going down the surgery route.
